PARTNERING FOR STUDENT SAFETY

Dear MKMS Families,

As part of our ongoing commitment to student wellness and safety, and as a follow-up to our recent newsletter notifications, I want to share information about an important assembly we held this week.
The brief presentation is titled "The Dangers of Edible Drugs". This assembly was facilitated by me (the building principal), our wellness staff, and our nursing staff. Our primary goal is to provide students with clear, age-appropriate information and practical safety tips to help them make healthy and informed choices.

The presentation focuses on awareness and prevention. Key topics will include:

  • Understanding Edibles: Defining what edibles are, specifically treats like candy, brownies, or gummies that can contain harmful drugs.
  • Identifying Risks: Discussing why they are dangerous, including how they are easy to mistake for normal treats and are often packaged to look like popular candies.
  • Staying Safe: Reviewing crucial safety tips, such as never eating food or candy from someone you don't know well and always reporting anything suspicious to a teacher or trusted adult.
  • Emergency Response: Reinforcing what to do in an emergency, such as calling 911 or an adult right away if someone looks sick, dizzy, or confused.

We have included a copy of the presentation link for your review (The Dangers of Edible Drugs). We encourage you to look it over and use this as an opportunity to speak with your student about making healthy choices and encouraging their friends to stay safe.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact the MKMS office at (860) 666-5418 ext. 2302 if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our students safe, healthy, and informed.

Sincerely,
Jason S. Lambert
MKMS Principal
