A Glimpse At Our Week...

A Long Walk To Water

To wrap up one of our last units in social studies this year, students are reading A Long Walk to Water. As a final culminating activity for our A Long Walk to Water unit, we are having our students participate in a “water walk” from MKMS to Newington Human Services on Cedar Street on Tuesday, June 16th. Students collected donated items for the Newington Food Bank. 148 students carried boxes filled with donated food, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene items about 2.5 miles round trip to simulate the difficulties one of the main characters, Nya, experienced as she walked miles daily to provide water for her family. We donated nearly 700 items to Newington Human Services.
