Welcome to a Fantastic New School Year!

What an incredible start to the year! Having our middle schoolers back in the building over these past two days brought so much energy, laughter, and high spirits to our hallways. We are officially off to a running start, and the student enthusiasm is already off the charts!

To keep you connected, I’ll send this newsletter on ParentSquare every Friday throughout the year. It will be your single go-to spot for important updates, upcoming events, and quick highlights of the awesome things our students are accomplishing.

Thank you for your incredible support and partnership as we launch into this new adventure. Let’s make it an unforgettable year—welcome back!

Our open house will take place on Thursday September 10th at 6:00 pm. More information on the schedule for the evening to follow. We look forward to seeing everyone on September 10th.

MAIN OFFICE/VISITOR PROCEDURES

Visitors: All visitors are required to use our our service window to take care of a good deal of school business items (dropping of and picking up forms, lunches, dismissals, etc.) We are also asking you please limit early dismissals or late arrivals for essential reasons only. Due to our own dismissal procedures, we are unable to dismiss your child between 2:20 and 2:55. Please pick up your child prior to 2:20 if they have an afternoon appointment. For early dismissal, please use this link to access our early dismissal form or call (860) 666-5418, prior to picking up your child(ren).

Any visitors that need to enter our building will be required to provide identification, undergo background check through our visitor management system, and wear a visitor's badge during their visit. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with our security protocols.

-Our Early Release Form-

For the convenience of our parents and school community we have added an early release form to Parent Square. This form will help ensure a safe and smooth dismissal process.
This form can be found under "links" on Parent Square or HERE!
Thank you for your participation.

ATTENDANCE

When your student(s) are absent from school, ParentSquare will send you a notification in regards to the absence. Parents and Guardians who receive Attendance Notices on their app or the ParentSquare website and can then submit notes back to the school. Click “Send Note to School,” enter the reason for the absence and click “Submit.” You only have the ability to submit a note AFTER your student has been marked absent. You have 10 days to submit the note through www.parentsquare.com or through the app. PLEASE DO NOT SEND A MESSAGE TO YOUR STUDENT'S TEACHERS.

If you need to contact our school office for any reason, other than attendance, please contact us at mkoffice@npsct.org or call 860-666-5418. Please use ParentSquare to report absences and/or tardies ONLY.

MORNING ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

A Partnership for a Safe Morning Arrival

Welcome back to another wonderful school year! It is such a joy to see our hallways and classrooms buzzing with excitement again.

As we all settle into our new routines, we would like to share a friendly reminder about our morning drop-off procedures to ensure that every student starts their day safely. Our school security officer has asked us to remind families that student drop-off should only take place alongside the designated curb.  Letting children out in the middle of the parking lot or driveway creates a significant safety hazard, as they must navigate through a high volume of moving cars and buses. Your partnership is crucial in keeping our campus safe for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us ensure a smooth and secure arrival for all our students!

PARENTSQUARE

Newington Public Schools uses ParentSquare for district and school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number on file with your student’s school. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.
Here’s what you can do with ParentSquare:
  • Receive messages from the school via email, text or app notification
  • Choose to receive information as it comes or all at once daily
  • Communicate in your preferred language
  • Comment on school postings to engage in your school community
  • Direct message teachers and staff
  • Participate in group messages
  • Sign up for parent-teacher conferences

In addition to routine information, the notification system will also be used to notify you when your child is marked absent from school. Emergency broadcasts will be sent to the primary phone number and all guardian contact numbers. For more information, visit www.bit.ly/NPSparentsquare.

STUDENT ILLNESS REMINDER

Dear Families,

As we start the new school year, we kindly want to remind everyone of our health and safety guidelines regarding student illness and injuries. Please review the following return-to-school policies:

·  Illness Guidelines: Fever: Students may return when their temperature is below 100.0°F for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication (e.g., Tylenol, ibuprofen).

· Vomiting: Students may return 24 hours after vomiting has stopped, as long as they are able to tolerate a regular diet.

· Diarrhea: Students may return 24 hours after the last loose bowel movement, provided they are eating normally.

For injuries that require crutches, walking boot, elevator use, no participation in gym/recess etc., it is required that we have a provider’s note listing all required accommodations. If we do not receive a note explaining the details for the student, they will be asked to be picked up for dismissal.

Thank you for everything that you do to keep our students healthy! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact us at 860-666-5418 (ext. 1) or we can be emailed at mknurses@npsct.org
Thank you and all the best,
