As we approach Halloween weekend, our top priority is keeping our students safe and supporting healthy choices. In collaboration with our school nursing staff and wellness teachers, we are hosting student assemblies leading up to the holiday to support school safety. This information reinforces our ongoing Wellness curriculum, helping students build practical skills and awareness.
These presentations focus on essential safety facts, including:
-
Edibles & Look-Alikes: Recognizing look-alike packaging and fake brand trickery that mimic popular candies, understanding high-potency THC risks, and inspecting trick-or-treat treats.
-
Vaping Risks: Identifying disguised devices (such as highlighters, USB drives, or pens) and understanding the health impacts of nicotine and toxic aerosols on developing adolescent brains and bodies.
-
Refusal & Safety Skills: Empowering students with clear refusal strategies and actionable emergency protocols, including knowing when to alert a trusted adult or seek emergency help.
We encourage families to talk with their children about these important topics at home. If you have any questions or would like to discuss any aspect of this presentation, please don't hesitate to reach out to us!

On Friday, October 23, our schools will come together for Hats for Hope, a district-wide fundraiser supporting pediatric cancer patients and their families across Connecticut. Students and staff are invited to make a donation ($1 or more) and wear their favorite hat to school as a fun and meaningful way to show support, spread hope, and remind those facing difficult health journeys that they are not alone. Each school will have its own QR code for donations, allowing every school to make an impact while coming together as one district. We hope students, staff, and families will join us in showing what our school community can do when we come together. Let’s fill our schools with hats, hope, and the strength of our Newington family!

Dear Families,
The Nurse’s Office would like to remind all families of our health and safety guidelines regarding student illness and injuries. Please review the following return‑to‑school policies carefully:
Illness Guidelines
-
Fever: Students may return once their temperature has remained below 100.0°F for at least 24 hours without the use of fever‑reducing medication (e.g., Tylenol, Ibuprofen).
-
Vomiting: Students may return 24 hours after vomiting has stopped, provided they are able to tolerate a regular diet.
-
Diarrhea: Students may return 24 hours after the last loose bowel movement, as long as they are eating normally.
Injury Guidelines
For injuries requiring crutches, a walking boot, elevator access, or restrictions from gym/recess, a provider’s note is required. The note must clearly outline all necessary accommodations. Without this documentation, students will need to be dismissed for pickup.
We appreciate your partnership in keeping our school community healthy and safe. For any questions, please contact the Nurse’s Office at 860-666-5418 ext. 1 or email us at mknurses@npsct.org.
Warm regards,
Martin Kellogg School Nurses

Important message for any middle school students interested in attending Newington High School Football games. Any middle school student must be accompanied by an adult in order to purchase a ticket and enter the facility for any future Newington Football game. Middle school students who are not with a parent, will be required to leave the premises.
As a reminder, there are no backpacks allowed in the facility and there is a no re-entry policy.
We greatly appreciate the support of all of our fans who come to watch the games and support the student athletes who spend many hours preparing for the events and look forward to your continued support.

Are you looking for a rewarding way to support our students and be an active part of our vibrant school community? We are currently seeking enthusiastic, positive individuals to join us for the school year in two key roles:
-
Hall Monitors: Be a friendly, welcoming face in our hallways! Responsibilities include greeting students, encouraging positive behavior during transitions, and helping supervise recess and lunch waves.
-
Permanent Building Substitutes: Help keep our classrooms running smoothly! Building subs report each day following the regular school schedule to provide reliable classroom coverage wherever needed.
Both positions run Monday through Friday, approximately 7:55 AM to 2:55 PM.
If you love working with kids and want to help us create a warm, safe, and supportive environment, we would love to have you on board!
How to Apply:
Give our main office a call first at 860-666-5418, ext. 2302 to speak with our staff, learn more about these assignments, and get started on your application.
We look forward to a fantastic school year together—thank you for partnering with us to make our school the best it can be!
