Alternate School Bus Stops

Attention Kindergarten - Grade 8 Parents/Guardians:

This year Newington Public Schools’ Transportation Department is facing challenges that are impacting routing and schedules. The first challenge is the uncertainty of the location(s) of the transportation fleet. Due to the construction of the new Town Hall there are several safety and traffic congestion concerns. Town officials have informed us that all vehicles used for daily transportation must be removed from both sides of Garfield Street and relocated to a site not yet determined. Relocation of over 40 vehicles requires immediate decisions and actions as there are several moving parts including routing for all students, bus stop locations, and driver assignments.

The second challenge is the MDC project. This project involves the installation of water mains on Willard Avenue from Veterans Drive to the Cedar Street intersection and sewer improvements along Cedar Street from Mill Brook to Old Farm Road for a period of up to 18 months. We anticipate increased traffic delays and congestion.

Therefore, parents or guardians requesting an alternate bus stop for their child(ren) must do so by Wednesday, August 8, 2018. If your child had an alternate bus stop in 2017-2018, it is necessary to submit a new request for 2018-2019.

Due to the challenges listed above NO BUS STOP CHANGES will be made from August 20 to September 14, 2018. Bus routes and stops will be available on August 17, 2018.

All requests for alternate bus stops should be directed to the secretary at your child’s school. Please contact the school directly with any questions.
